 The "Sour Mouth" Dirt Delivery Man From Georgia

 New York is quiet again. Relatively speaking, of course. The elephants 
 have all left town. President Bush made his speech. And his words, simple 
 as 1, 2, 3, were a clear reflection of the non-sophisticated "Good Guys" 
 vs. "Bad Guys" approach he takes to everything. How about his line. 
 "Some folks look at me and see a certain swagger, which in Texas 
 is called walking."

 Ha. Ha. Can't get any more simple-minded than that. 

 Does that mean we're supposed to vote for you now George?

 And what was the deal with the podium in the center of the floor. This was 
 supposed to be a political convention. Not a cabaret lounge act. Bush can't 
 sing. Thank God. And his cowboy jokes fall flat. Get rid of that thing. May 
 we never be subjected to such foolishness again. 

 Oh well. The focal point of this week - historically - probably won't center
 around George's warm, fuzzy Reaganesque speech. And Rudy G's calculated 
 attack on John Kerry was but a footnote. Oh, and there was Ah-nold. He 
 basically performed in front of the audience like an actor performing in front 
 of an audience. 

 Right. He is an actor. But, is there any substance to this guy? -- And what
 was that little white lie you told Ah-nold? You know the one about the 
 Soviet tanks rolling through the streets back in Austria.

 The Republican Convention did have something that will be remembered
 for many a year to come. A bit of infamy if you will. The political "Doofus 
 of the Year" award must go to Senator Zell "Sour Mouth" Miller. The 
 traitor from the state of Georgia, who broke bread with the enemy.

 Zell certainly didn't leave anything to chance. He's won by a landslide. 
 His vicious rhetoric against his own political party was a pure demonstration 
 of the contempt he feels for the Democratic leadership and their values. 
 The man was vile. No wonder he's retiring. He certainly won't have any 
 friends left on the hill. The Democrats aren't about to forgive him. And 
 now that he's served his purpose at the convention in making Dick Cheney
 look like "Mr. Mellow Daddy" who's cool with the lesbian daughter he
 obviously still loves. Naaaw, Republicans won't have much use for Zell. 

 Afterall, he's still offically a Democrat.

 What makes a man become a traitor like that? Where does the sour milk 
 come from? Used to be the concept of democracy was that you work from
 within. You don't storm off in huff because your colleagues disagree with 
 your point of view.

 There's a word for it, Zell. -- Loyalty. Where was yours the other night? 
 You don't cause a wreck just because you can't ride in the front seat of 
 the car.

 Obviously ole' Zell was on a mission to save the United States from the 
 weak-hearted paintywaists who dominate his once beloved party.  He's 
 the only Democrat on Capital Hill who has seen the light. And of George 
 Bush, he said. "I have knocked on the door of this man's soul."

 What the heck does that mean? 

 Zell it is time for you to retire. Not only do you talk funny, but what 
 was your thinking Wednesday night? You delivered the most toxic, 
 over-the-top speech at a political convention in maybe fifty years. 
 -- And in doing so, you were extremely unkind to former friends 
 and colleages.

 The sad part is Zell, not only did you - all on your own - haul the Bush 
 campaign's dirt. You delivered that dirt to the doorsteps of America.

 Zell you've been played. The Republicans used you and tossed you 
 aside like a, -- well you know. But if George rang you up the other night 
 to express his sincere appreciation of your cynical deed. Don't keep
 it a secret. Please tell somebody.

 At least that would be something.

 In the meantime Zell, you'll just have to accept that "Sour Mouth" 
 label. Most folks - especially Democrats - would think it appropriate.
 And making allowances for your age, you might not have quite the
 years left to ever live it down.
