There was an historic moment this week. -- We think.

The cable tv network that never could. MSNBC has finally
made a logical decision in ridding the airwaves of "know it all"
 journalist Peter Arnett.

 They fired him.

If you slept through the weekend, then you missed New Zealander,
Arnett's interview with state-run Iraqi television. An interview
in which he expressed his opinion that the initial allied war plan
had failed, and that there was growing dissension in the United
States as to the war effort.

Arnett is yet another of these headline-seeking journalists who
believe that they are a part of the story, and that their personal
opinion means something. It is inevitable that in reporting any
story that some elements of a journalist's world-view will slip in.
But to give an interview on the state-controlled television of a
regime that is barbaric and inhumane to its own people, let alone
dishonorable in how they are conducting the war from their end.
-- Is an incredible display of bad judgement and hubris.

This war is not about Peter Arnett. Or whether in his private
moments he feels the coalition military action is unjustified.

There are young American boys dying. There are young British
boys dying. Fighting in the name of principles that the people
in Iraq can't even imagine yet. Or dare speak of openly. Because
the struggle for them is one merely to survive, and not to become
an enemy of the group of murderous thugs who rule the country.

No one in America cares what Peter Arnett thinks. He should
take his sanctimony elsewhere. -- Truly this man does not belong
on MSNBC or with National Geographic. { who have also since,
 dismissed him }

Maybe he should go ask for employment over at Al Jazeera.
Or even better. He can go back to his friends at Iraqi television.

 Hat in hand.

For his sake. Let's hope he never displeases, them.
