 A Weird Plague of Kidnappings In The U.S.

 Another day. And another kidnapping that grabbed the attention
 of the U.S. public. This one almost was destined to end in an O.J.
 like chase. But the police shot the suspect dead, instead.

 What is the spark that seems to be catapulting these maniacs into
 such senseless acts of mayhem. How stupid is it to kidnap someone
 in the first place. The outcome will only be sad. Either for the
 perpetrator or the victim. And quite frequently for both.

 Perhaps the media is to blame. Unstable personalities seize the
 opportunity for a quick rush, and a momentary fame. Or rather a 
 momentary spotlight of infamy.

 It is the video game world we live in today. Commit an act of 
 senseless violence, and your name, and perhaps your likeness is 
 spread across the world in minutes. The cable channels babble on, 
 and on, and on, with mindless speculation. So-called experts perform 
 on air psychoanalysis of people they've never met.

 Kidnappings are not novel. Neither are serial killings or the merciless
 warfare tactics such as we see in the Middle East almost daily. It's 
 just the fanning of the flames that is new. Driven by the desire for
 high ratings, cable news channels unintentionally create the copycat 
 bad guys who want their one special moment.

 Grab a hot-dog. Grab a coke. Get the popcorn ready. And don't
 you dare change that channel.

 What a brave new world is this.
