Tuesday night, August 20th, 2002, was a fateful night for Congresswoman
Cynthia McKinney. She lost her reelection bid by a surprising margin
to a political neophyte. Soon to be ex-Congresswoman McKinney has
no one but herself to blame.

It appears that many people in this country, and not just in the state of
Georgia, are weary of politicians who are elected to Congress, proceed
to the Nation's Capital and immediately become idealogues for countless,
wacky, conspiracy theories. As an example, Cynthia McKinney actually
proposed publically that George W. Bush possessed personal knowledge
about Sept. 11th, before it happened, and did nothing to prevent the
murder of those almost 3,000 innocents. Supposedly, in Cynthia McKinney's
view, because he stood to make a financial gain from the tragedy.

The people of the 4th district in Georgia deserve more responsible
congressional representation than that. Not only was Congresswoman's
McKinney's statement proposperous, but it by default proposes that
our current President is an evil man beyond measure.

Is this what the people of  her district deserve in their Congressional
representative? They were wise to vote her out of office. Denise Majette,
the congresswoman-elect, will learn on the job just as Cynthia McKinney
once did. And the people in her district will support her if she earns their
 respect.

There is another angle to Congresswoman McKinney's defeat. Because
of her freqently pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel positions, the congresswoman
inevitably made enemies. Money from outside the state poured into the
Majette campaign to strengthen that candidancy, and hopefully defeat
McKinney. On her own behalf, McKinney has received money from
various organizations with ties to Palestian and Islamic concerns in the
 Middle East.

This is as it should be. Congresswoman McKinney had the right to
speak forthrightly and powerfully about issues in the Middle East
that were of concern to her. This is what she was elected to Congress
to do. And those who were oppossed to her positions had an equal
right to rally to defeat her.

There have been many angry voices in Georgia stating that outside money
influencing their election has a taint to it. This is an area where perhaps
an intense political discourse -- in Georgia and elsewhere is warranted.
But as for the recent election. As long as the state election codes were
not violated by either side. And the correct procedures were followed.

 It is a non-issue.
