 The Imperial President's Blind Eye
  on North Korea

North Korea has the bomb. -- Well maybe.

The mysterious closed nation of starving peasants, led by the insanely
paranoid and weird, Kim Jong II apparently has been working on a secret
nuclear weapons program in violation of the Framework Agreement of 1994.
And despite the Korean government's strangely-timed admission of that fact,
the Bush administration has known about the Korean program for months.

But is there a call to arms against this nation that borders China's one billion?
Of course not. The Imperial President knows that a military conflict against
North Korea could cost tens of thousands of American lives, not to mention
the potential for losses in South Korea that could number in the millions.
North Korea is no Iraq in the sense of the potential for a public relations
nightmare for President Bush. If he thinks Saddam is bad. The indecipherable
 Kim may be even worse.

So the Imperial President and his Right Wing minions kept their little Korea
problem quiet. All the hawks in the administration - those who believe it's the
United States province to insure peace and stability the world over - never
leaked anything to the press about the little doings in Pyongyang. Apparently
the U.S. public didn't have a right to know about this particular threat to
world peace, despite the President's own labeling of North Korea as part of
 an Axis of Evil.

 Can you figure this out?

Ah but, if this one had happened under the Clinton Administration we'd be
hearing endless chatter from the Right about a weak, indecisive, democratic
president, that apparently thinks it's okay for the North Koreans to work
quietly on their little project, while the nation's attention is focused only on
 the Middle East and Iraq.

Bill Clinton was never allowed to chose the conflicts he could avoid.

This one may well come back to bite the Imperial President where it hurts
most. If the war in Iraq does happen, Saddam is deposed, and there are
thousands of horrible American casualties in the process. Bush had better
hope that there really are weapons of mass destruction on Iraq soil to justify
all those lost lives. Because if there is not. The nation may soon be faced
with an even greater threat in North Korea that cannot be put off to a later
date. And that cannot be handled with behind the scenes diplomatic
 maneuverings.

And there are rumblings that the North Korean military are already
very suspicious of Kim's tentative "make nice" approach to the West.

Will a war-weary American public put up with a second military confilict
after Iraq? At the cost of finishing his father's war, the Imperial President
may have left the back door open to an Asian conflict that coud be far,
 far, deadlier.
